Seven paintings. Eight years of recovery behind them. Michael C. Myers paints with the limbs he has left - hurling, striking, and gouging paint onto canvas to bypass the neural pathways an accident took from him. Black structures carry the trauma. Crimson and magenta carry the hope.
"I am still here. I am still creating. I still exist."

Stark black diagonals cut across a weathered gray field. Painted using kinetic, sweeping motion to bypass the neural pathways my injury left behind — the scar isn't hidden here, it's the composition. The diagonal is the new route my body found when the old one was gone.
Raw, unsmoothed texture, left exactly where it landed - proof of a physical act, not a polished illustration of one. I didn't want this one to look effortless. I wanted it to look like it cost something to make, because it did.

Bold, deliberate brushstrokes cut through a field of fractured shapes, borrowing from a teaching on impermanence. I don't paint the fragments to make them whole again — I paint the stroke that moves through them anyway.
Dark, heavy tones ring the outer edge of this canvas and slowly give way to a vibrant, glowing center. Eight years — eight winters — of chronic pain and recovery, and the single spring that finally broke through.
An off-balance black structure leans across a field of grass green — a soccer pitch that isn't quite there anymore. The most direct piece in the series about what the accident actually took: a leg, and the career I was building on it.
Heavy, structural black arcs anchor this canvas, but it's the open white space around them that carries the weight - breathing room, reclaimed the hard way, through survival. Whatever the black arcs represent, they didn't get the last word.
A bonus piece outside the core set, where Abstract Expressionism meets Japanese calligraphy. The title is exactly what it says - this one is my thank-you, made the only way I know how to say it.
